Can I run on two household computers with one purchase?

  • #1 Sep 16, 2012

I have not bought Minecraft yet and hinging upon answer to this question.
Can I install it on my master computer and also on my laptop, and have my children playing it simultaneously on both?

I am not new to computers. I just do not know what kind of protection the game uses. Do you have to be logged in to be playing it? And can I be logged in multiple times at once?

Great, but one more (basic) question: does the online buying of the game contain some kind of protection where it can only be installed for one user name? I have no problem making multiple log-ins, as long as I do not have to buy the game twice for two different installations!

You can install Minecraft on any computer, as much as you want with one account.

You can only be logged on to each account in one place.

So you can install it on as many computers as you want, but only one installation will work at a time (without getting more accounts).

Thanks all, but one final question (and this is the important one!)
Yes, I will make two log-ins for my two different children to play. Will I need to buy the game twice?? Or can I get away with spending 26.95 one time and installing it on two different computers where I have two different log-ins?

once they're installed on both computers one can log in and the other can click "play offline"

the downside is one won't be able to play on multiplayer servers, or see his/her skin.

If they are both bought. A skin is assigned to an account, not the installation.

It is possible to have two separate machines running Minecraft with the same account (singleplayer and multiplayer), although this might violate some terms of use. (Check for yourself!)

    edit:

You can only be logged on to each account in one place.

Wrong. I'm testing it right now (two computers, one account), and the only restriction I see is that both computers with the same account cannot be logged into the same server at the same time.
