He is known for his single, "Do It Once more," which is often mistaken to exist Soichi Terada'due south piece of work every bit a issue of an wrong credit on YouTube. Early life and career [edit]

Yokota comes from the Ōta ward, growing upwards in Tokyo and its next suburbs of Kanagawa and Chiba, and attended Chidori Elementary Schoolhouse in south Tokyo during the early on 80'due south, where he played baseball. In 1987, Yokota met fellow producer Soichi Terada when participating in a Vestax DJ Competition, where Yokota won a prize.[9] [15] [fourteen] [16] Terada introduced him to house music and synthesizers, even letting him in his business firm to watch him perform and have Yokota utilise his gear during his free time.[11] [17] [18] He began making house music, but said that information technology was difficult to find others similar him since the dominant style of electronic music in Tokyo was Hi-NRG and eurobeat.[12]

He formed the label Far East Recording with Terada in 1990.[x] [13] [19] He and Terada would put out their get-go album chosen Far Eastward Recording in 1992.[20]

Absence from music [edit]

Yokota has stated that he lost his motivation to create music due to the influx of new engineering science. But with hd recording the possibilities were endless, and around 2000 I lost my motivation to make music." He focused more on his custom car parts company, Night-Pager, that he launched in 1992. Resurgence [edit]

In early 2013, a YouTube channel called UtopiaSpb uploaded a rip of "Do Information technology Again," but incorrectly credited the vocal to Terada. While their other rips range from one thousand views to 9.8 1000 views, "Exercise It Again" garnered more 2 meg views as of June 2020.[23] Multiple users, including Terada himself, pointed out the inaccuracy, but the channel has been inactive since the upload of the song.[3]

In May 2016, he appeared in Banality Room playing a live set.[24] In November of that same twelvemonth, he released his second album, Exercise It Again And Once more, which includes unreleased songs produced in the late 80's and early 90's.[15] [13] [xvi]

In September 2019, he released his 3rd album, I Know Y'all Like It,[25] and in October, released Ultimate Yokota 1991-2019.[17] [eighteen] [26] [27] [28]

In March 2020, he participated in the music festival Snow Automobile alongside Terada, Chida, Kuniyuki Takahashi, FEMM, Mayurashka, Gonno and Kikiorix.[29]

Practice It Again and Once again [edit]

Do It Over again and Again was released on Nov xxx, 2016.[30] The anthology had a release party at Circus Tokyo on Feb 25.[31] [32] [33] [34] The album is Yokota's first full-length solo album, with Stefan Betke mastering the album.[xv] [35] Yokota described it equally "a compilation of my whole life producing" so that he could "relive 27 years of significant memories."[10]

I Know Yous Like It [edit]

I Know Y'all Like It was released on September 25, 2019, 3 years after Practice It Once more and Again. The anthology includes covers of Yokota's previous songs "Night Drive" and "Shake Yours" and a cover of the song "Simoon" by Xanthous Magic Orchestra.

The album received generally positive reviews. The Tape Deck rated it a xanthous, saying that his "melange of thin loftier-frequency synths and rhythm fills, comes through clearly on I Know You Like It, a cheekily-titled release that will hopefully see him find a greater American audience."[36] Yellow means that it had loftier points in aesthetics and originality, but low points in intellect. This also means that information technology "stands out in both emotional evocation and in uniqueness."[a] At Finding Figaro, the author explains, "It'south an incredibly consistent album encompass-to-cover and, to my ears, already feels like a timeless classic, definitely one of the releases of 2019."[37]

Ultimate Yokota 1991-2019 [edit]

Ultimate Yokota 1991-2019 was released in October 2019.[6] [17] All songs included in the album were previously unavailable in vinyl form. Yokota said near the compilation: "This project 'Ultimate Yokota' is a careful selection of tracks from the early 90'due south which haven't been released on vinyl ever. It is my 30 years chronicle."[27] [38] [26] [28] The album includes 6 songs from Do It Over again and Once again and six songs from I Know You Like It.

Yokota has said that Haruomi Hosono of the Yellow Magic Orchestra is 1 of his major influences, stating the he listened to YMO and Ryuichi Sakamoto when he was x years one-time.
